This encaustic beeswax artwork is a textured painting of a bison's head set against a vibrant, predominantly green and yellow background. The bison is rendered with rich, dark brown and black hues, its fur depicted with thick, layered brushstrokes that add a tactile quality. Two prominent, curved horns extend from its head, painted in lighter shades of white and gray that contrast sharply with the dark fur. The bison's eyes are glossy and black, conveying a sense of depth and life. The background features abstract, textured elements made with embedded yarn, painted in shades of green, yellow, and touches of red, creating a dynamic and lively contrast to the bison's solid, stoic presence.
Introducing Vicki’s new line of encaustic pieces! Encaustic is a mix of beeswax, natural damar tree resin and pigment, layered on a birch cradle board. Each layer is fused using heat to make a durable surface once it has cured. Much like needle-felted wool, encaustic is wonderful for achieving pronounced texture and depth. Vicki’s use of saturated colour, enhanced texture and sweeping movement carries over nicely to this beautiful artform.
This original encaustic painting was hand-crafted with encaustic medium and pigment stick on a birch cradle board.
Artwork dimensions are 12 × 16”
Most of Vicki’s felted pieces include a frame or shadowbox to protect them at art shows and markets, however encaustic leaves a durable finish and therefore these pieces do not come framed. This allows you to match a frame to your decor, if you choose to frame it. Vicki enjoys the look of unframed encaustic and leave her personal pieces as they are sold here. Any frames you see on wax pieces are for staging purposes only. Most frames on images of wool pieces are included in the purchase price.
