Big Show

$385.00

This encaustic beeswax artwork is a vibrant and dynamic landscape painting showcasing a dramatic sky at dusk or dawn. The upper portion features swirling dark blue and indigo clouds, with intricate textures and a sense of movement. Below, a bright yellow and orange horizon blends seamlessly into the darker sky, creating a striking contrast that emphasizes the transition between day and night. Silhouetted against this colorful backdrop is a line of dense, jagged trees, rendered in textured black wax, which separate the sky from a reflective body of water beneath. The water mirrors the vivid colors of the sky, with pink and purple hues rippling across its surface. A textured ripple effect was crafted by scraping back some wax in the water portion of the scene. The overall effect evokes a powerful and atmospheric natural scene filled with energy and contrast.

Introducing Vicki’s new line of encaustic pieces! Encaustic is a mix of beeswax, natural damar tree resin and pigment, layered on a birch cradle board. Each layer is fused using heat to make a durable surface once it has cured. Much like needle-felted wool, encaustic is wonderful for achieving pronounced texture and depth. Vicki’s use of saturated colour, enhanced texture and sweeping movement carries over nicely to this beautiful artform.

This original encaustic painting was hand-crafted with encaustic medium and pigment stick on a birch cradle board.

Artwork dimensions are 20 × 41 cm (8 × 16”)

Most of Vicki’s felted pieces include a frame or shadowbox to protect them at art shows and markets, however encaustic leaves a durable finish and therefore these pieces do not come framed. This allows you to match a frame to your decor, if you choose to frame it. Vicki enjoys the look of unframed encaustic and leave her personal pieces as they are sold here. Any frames you see on wax pieces are for staging purposes only. Most frames on images of wool pieces are included in the purchase price.
