The Colour of Music

$325.00

Well this was fun to create! There’s collage, metallic accents, scraped mark -making, embedded threads, and embedded texture.

This encaustic beeswax artwork depicts a stylized bird with a plump body standing on a dark surface. The bird's body is primarily painted in shades of blue, scraped back to reveal various floral and abstract patterns in reds, pinks, and blacks. The background features a mottled mix of pale yellows, greens, and blues, adding a textured and dynamic atmosphere to the piece. The bird's large eye is glossy and reflective, contrasting with the matte layering of colors and patterns on its body. The overall style combines elements of abstraction and whimsy, with a textured surface that adds depth and complexity to the composition.

Introducing Vicki’s new line of encaustic pieces! Encaustic is a mix of beeswax, natural damar tree resin and pigment, layered on a cradled birch board. Each layer is fused using heat to make a durable surface once it has cured. Much like needle-felted wool, encaustic is wonderful for achieving pronounced texture and depth. Vicki’s use of saturated colour, enhanced texture and sweeping movement carries over nicely to this beautiful artform.

This original encaustic painting was hand-crafted with encaustic medium and pigment stick on a cradled birch board.

Artwork dimensions: 9 x 12”

Most of Vicki’s felted pieces include a frame or shadowbox to protect them at art shows and markets, however encaustic leaves a durable finish and therefore these pieces do not come framed. This allows you to match a frame to your decor, if you choose to frame it. Vicki enjoys the look of unframed encaustic and leave her personal pieces as they are sold here. Any frames you see on wax pieces are for staging purposes only. Most frames on images of wool pieces are included in the purchase price.
