Ever Changing Sky

$2,270.00

Introducing Vicki’s new line of encaustic pieces! Encaustic is a mix of beeswax, natural damar tree resin and pigment, layered on a cradled birch board. Each layer is fused using heat to make a durable surface once it has cured. Much like needle-felted wool, encaustic is wonderful for achieving pronounced texture and depth. Vicki’s use of saturated colour, enhanced texture and sweeping movement carries over nicely to this beautiful artform.

This piece is extra special as it combines encaustic wax and needle-felted wool. The artwork depicts a vibrant landscape scene showcasing a dense cluster of trees along the horizon beneath a dramatic, colorful sky. The sky is painted with sweeping bands of purples, pinks, blues, and hints of yellow, creating a striking sunset or sunrise effect. The trees are lush and varied in shades of green, with some darker silhouettes punctuating the scene, while the foreground features a gently rolling, grassy terrain with a mix of light green and earthy tones. The brushstrokes and textures add a sense of movement and depth, emphasizing the dynamic contrast between the vivid sky and the calm, natural landscape below.

Vicki refers to pieces crafted from needle-felted wool embedded in encaustic wax as “felt fusion’. Movement, colour and texture are all abundant in the original wax and wool painting. This original was hand crafted using pigmented encaustic medium and pigment sticks to embellish and highlight the wax features.

Artwork dimensions are 18 × 36”

Most of Vicki’s felted wool pieces include a frame or shadowbox to protect them at art shows and markets, however encaustic leaves a durable finish and therefore these pieces do not come framed. This allows you to match a frame to your decor, if you choose to frame it. Vicki enjoys the look of unframed encaustic and leave her personal pieces as they are sold here. Any frames you see on wax pieces are for staging purposes only. Most frames on images of wool pieces are included in the purchase price.

This “felt fusion” piece does not include a frame.
