This photo encaustic beeswax artwork depicts a close-up portrait of a white dog with a fluffy coat standing outdoors. The dog dominates the foreground, with its large snout and soft fur rendered in detail. In the background, there is a stark contrast with a fiery red and orange sunset sky and barren, leafless trees, creating a dramatic and intense atmosphere. The ground beneath the dog is earthy and somewhat desolate, contributing to a sense of rugged natural surroundings. The overall composition combines the warm glow of the sunset with the soft texture of the dog's fur, resulting in a striking and emotive image. Photo encaustic requires specialty archival paper, ink and adhesive, which result in a beautiful lasting artwork.

Introducing Vicki’s new line of encaustic pieces! Encaustic is a mix of beeswax, natural damar tree resin and pigment, layered on a cradled birch board. Each layer is fused using heat to make a durable surface once it has cured. Much like needle-felted wool, encaustic is wonderful for achieving pronounced texture and depth. Vicki’s use of saturated colour, enhanced texture and sweeping movement carries over nicely to this beautiful artform.

This original photo encaustic painting was hand-crafted with encaustic medium and pigment stick on a cradled birch board.
