This encaustic beeswax artwork is a textured depiction of a lone tree standing upright against a backdrop of a blue sky. The tree is rendered with thick, tactile strokes of beeswax in green and darker hues, giving the foliage a dense, lush appearance. The sky is painted with varying shades of blue, incorporating subtle hints of other colors, adding depth and a sense of movement. The tree’s trunk is sturdy and brown, grounded by a patch of grass and vegetation at the base, which contains strokes of green and brown and even metallic copper peeking out from upper layers. The overall effect is a vibrant and dimensional representation of nature, with an emphasis on texture and color contrast.
Introducing Vicki’s new line of encaustic pieces! Encaustic is a mix of beeswax, natural damar tree resin and pigment, layered on a cradled birch board. Each layer is fused using heat to make a durable surface once it has cured. Much like needle-felted wool, encaustic is wonderful for achieving pronounced texture and depth. Vicki’s use of saturated colour, enhanced texture and sweeping movement carries over nicely to this beautiful artform.
This original encaustic painting was hand-crafted with encaustic medium and pigment stick on a cradled birch board.
